Monografia, poświęcona w całości jego niezwykłej twórczości, mającej pośród filmoznawców oraz publiczności filmowej tak grono oddanych wielbicieli, jak i krytyków. Mocny, wręcz anarchistyczny akcent pada tu na typ przedstawianego bohatera filmowego, żyjącego na marginesie społeczeństwa i świadomie odrzucającego jego normatywne struktury. Filmy, jak również literatura, do której książka się odwołuje, są wyrazem postawy krytycznej wobec przemocy symbolicznej i narzucania jednostce ograniczających ją twórczo norm kulturowych, nakazujących takie, a nie inne rozumienie i przeżywanie otaczającego świata.
