Abstract: The article presents the author's views on the importance of meeting students' emotional needs to help them in improving their academic achievement. She says that most of the teachers' instructional decisions now tend to focus on state assessments due to pressure of standardized assessment scores. However, she believes that creating a safe and caring environment is also important to help students in learning. She also talks about developing a good teacher-student relationship.
