Abstract: The article discusses the impact that nonphotosynthetic Cyanobacteria had on the oxidation of the environmental during the early planet Earth's atmospheric evolution, in which oxygen (O2) levels increased, referencing an article in the issue by R. M. Soo, J. Hemp, D. H. Parks, W. W. Fischer and P. Hugenholtz. The impact that increased oxygen levels and the Earth's aerobic environment had on the evolutionary development of photosynthesis is discussed.
