Abstract: The authors comment on an article published within the issue which proposes a holistic view of evaluation of health profession education programs. Topics covered include the failure of the most common evaluation approaches to capture the complexities of programs, how the adoption of the abstract decomposition space (ADS), a tool from systems engineering, can help capture all the interactions between elements in a program, and a novel tool for program evaluation provided by the ADS.
