Abstract: The article discusses the relationships between data privacy laws such as the Europe's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California's Consumer Privacy Act and shadow health records which are collections of health data which are used in research-related settings, and it mentions legal protections for human genetic data. America's Privacy and Security Rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and public trust in data science are assessed.
