Abstract: The article presents the rationality and ideologies of economics. It addresses the issues presented by Robert Heilbroner's views on the concept of rationality. This paper discusses the emergence of capitalism and economic theories. It further explains the role of rationality for the establishment of mainstream economy. Other issues included are the varieties of rationality, a critique on the rational-actor theory in evaluating individual behavior to explain social phenomena, and details the effect of ignorance.
