Abstract: As COVID-19 is visibly and fiercely leaving its marks on life around the world, people are experiencing feelings of fear, loss, and anxiety about the future. Scientific data are showing us how quickly air quality is improving in important economic regions due to dropping to levels well-nigh reminiscent of pre-industrial eras. However, upon reflecting on these phenomena, we may find ourselves at the same time experiencing thoughts and feelings that tell us that these phenomena may soon - when we have worked our way through the corona crisis and economic recovery has set in - be squandered.
