Abstract: In the formation of his theory, Adler argued that all the problems of life were related to communal life, work, and love. These three ideas are collectively referred to as the life tasks and are foundational elements in Individual Psychology. In this article, the three life tasks are discussed relative to the personal qualities necessary for successful satisfaction of each task. These qualities, which include responsibility, cooperation, and respect, are combined with courage in the face of imperfections to define psychological muscle. This concept is discussed relative to vulnerability and relative resistance to common mental health conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
