Abstract: An editorial is presented in which the authors discuss their perspectives about the drawbacks of efforts to define addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease (CRBD) in order to lessen the social stigma faced by drug use addicts. The authors discuss harm reduction and social justice as alternative frames to substance abuse response and treatment, and harm reduction efforts in Europe.
