| Abstract: | As an example of someone in the third category, Burston discusses the Catholic German Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber (1869-1952), who disagreed with the Nazi assertion that the Old Testament was irrelevant to Christianity and yet also described German Jews as lacking roots and loyalty. In his conclusion, Burston warns against the dangers for progressive Jews of "belligerent extremists on the Right and the Left", and emphasizes the critical importance of steps toward "two coequal states in Israel and Palestine" (p. 124).
