Abstract: The article proposes the use of contingency management as a maintenance intervention in the long-term treatment of substance use disorders. It suggests long-term maintenance of drug abstinence incentives for patients to enhance long-term outcomes and cites the relapse of patients when abstinence incentives are discontinued. It also discusses the implications of long-term maintenance of contingency management interventions for society and individual patients.
