| Abstract (English): | This quantitative study was aimed at characterizing self-injuring behaviors and analyzing possible differences in psychological aspects among adolescents according to such behaviors. The sample consisted of 202 high school students of both genders between 12 and 18 years old. Using the Self-Harm Questionnaire (SHQ-E), the SHAPS scale, the State-Trait Depression Questionnaire (IDER in Spanish), and the Modified Coping Strategies Scale (EEC-M in Spanish), self-injury was identified in 38.1% of the participants evaluated, with a higher prevalence in women (48.3%) than in men (25%). Skin cutting was the most common self-injuring action and was mainly associated with family problems, feelings of anger, impulsivity, and lack of planning. The study revealed that adolescents who engaged in self-injury exhibited higher depressive symptomatology (trait and state). Moreover, in coping strategies, they demonstrated a greater aggressive reaction and emotional avoidance, along with a lower inclination to seek social and professional support. | Abstract (Spanish): | El presente estudio cuantitativo se orientó hacia la caracterización de las conductas autolesivas y el análisis de posibles diferencias en aspectos psíquicos entre adolescentes según dichas conductas. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 202 estudiantes de secundaria de ambos sexos, con edades comprendidas entre los 12 y 18 años. Mediante el cuestionario de autolesionismo (SHQ-E), la escala SHAPS, el inventario IDER y la escala Coping EEC-M se identificó autolesión en 38,1 % de los evaluados, cifra superior en mujeres (48,3 %) que en hombres (25 %). Los cortes en la piel fueron la acción autolesiva más frecuente y se asoció principalmente con problemas familiares, sentimientos de ira, impulsividad y no planificación. Se reveló que los adolescentes que se autolesionaron presentaron mayor sintomatología depresiva (rasgo y estado), y en estrategias de afrontamiento una mayor reacción agresiva y evitación emocional, junto con una menor búsqueda de apoyo social y profesional.
