Abstract: The article focuses on the concept of abstracting in general semantics, exploring how we relate to and understand our environment. It examines Polish-American philosopher, Alfred Korzybski's structural differential model, which visualizes how we abstract information from reality, and compares it with Greek philosopher, Plato's allegory of the cave, which illustrates the human process of understanding objective reality versus subjective perception.
