Abstract: Sustainability requires a universal assurance from all sections of society to preserve the natural, cultural, economic, and human resources of the earth in order to ensure a safe and stable future. This study explores the environmental values and philosophy of sustainable consumption and living from a Nichiren Buddhist perspective, with a qualitative and ethnographic study of an international Buddhist organization. The study advances theory at the intersection of sustainable living, sustainability education and religion by shedding light on how Buddhist doctrines influence sustainable living by enabling people to appreciate the reality of the interconnectedness of their lives and the environment and in their inherent limitless potential to initiate positive change, thereby empowering them. This can aid in creating value, in the domains of sustainable consumption and living, environmental preservation and education, sustainability education, communication, policy and initiatives and crafting a sustainable society.
