Abstract: This paper focuses on efforts to include K-12 Asian American histories and Asian American studies in the Commonwealth of Virginia from two perspectives. One author writes from her experiences as a high school student advocating for representation in classrooms and extracurricular spaces and then as a university student creating Asian American Studies summer camps for high school students. The second author draws from her work with her university, with grassroots organizations, and with local teachers to provide educational resources for Asian American histories. Together, the authors reflect on the challenges of incorporating Asian American histories in the Virginian context, including political opposition, high-stakes testing, and diverting attention and resources to combating anti-affirmative action misinformation and advocacy from Asian American communities.
