| Abstract: | This article presents information on Slosson Intelligence Test-Primary (SIT-P) in young children. This is an expansion of the Slosson Intelligence Test-Revised and includes a Nonverbal Scale and the development of norms for the Verbal Scale down to the age of 2 years. The SIT-P is a brief verbal and nonverbal intelligence screener designed for use by mental health professionals to efficiently obtain cognitive information about children ages 2 through 7 years of age. This design of verbal and nonverbal factors is commonly noted in modem intelligence tests. The Horn-Cattell model, which underlies the Woodcock-Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities, proposes that fluid and crystallized intelligence are two factors that make up one's abilities and allow for reasoning, that is, continual adaptation and manipulation of the environment as well as abilities to absorb concrete, acculturated knowledge. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition reported a factor model that included Verbal Comprehension and Perceptual Reasoning, in addition to Working Memory and Processing Speed. Likewise, data collected from administrations of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Revised, have provided support for the separation of Verbal and Performance IQ scores. |
