| Abstract (English): | Through the analysis of the life history of an immigrant woman who was separated from her baby after a protection measure was initiated due to parental neglect, I explored the predominant conflicts in her narrative, which were directly associated with her experience of separation. Among them: how her intrapsychic processes for emotional attachment to her baby's early care are affected by the relational trauma resulting from forced separation; how the cumulative trauma in her life history is exacerbated by the particular experiential configuration of her migratory process and the subjection to evaluative instances aimed ultimately at separating her from her baby, without an effective prior support and accompaniment process; and finally, how fundamental the women were who witnessed her separation process and accompanied her until reunification with her baby. It is crucial to make it explicit that, originally, I carried out my research work in the course of 2018 and 2019 for my master's degree and, while in its first version I present the analysis and results in a more extensive way, the selected elements focus on the particular experience of the protagonist, and leave out those who understand this problem at a socio-political level. Regarding the methodological design, I intentionally avoided setting constrained work objectives. Any preconceived idea about the findings of this study implied a potential risk of moving away from the genuine encounter with the protagonist's experience, pushing aspects of her story into reductionism, and by default, looking at and listening to her story from a place, like the one of the professionals that evaluated the capacities and conditions of this mother to fulfill her role. That is, to take a position that reproduces hegemonic conditions of power. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
