This essay reads Sam Guzzardi's "Laplanche in the Consulting Room" as a reminder that theory in psychoanalysis is not ornament but experience, and that writing itself can be a form of clinical presence. Following as Guzzardi courts the sexual drive without abandoning care, the discussion accompanies the reader through both theory and clinical material in which style speaks louder than technique, and wherein the freedom to be driven by the sexual is reconciled with the ghosts it inevitably awakens. What emerges is an irreducibly Laplanchean wager: that analysis works best not only when it unsettles or disturbs but also when it manages, somehow, to keep the faith we need to mourn our lives, sustaining and releasing us into freer futures.
