Abstract: The article focuses on the emergence of nitazenes, a class of highly potent synthetic opioids, in Australia's unregulated drug markets, highlighting their association with hospitalizations and fatalities. A letter published in July 2024 reported 22 confirmed overdose deaths in Victoria linked to nitazenes, with the most common being protonitazene.
