Abstract (English): The present article addresses the theme of suffering with the aim of answering the following question: how do biblical teachings on suffering contribute to comfort, and what are the consequences of the absence of this teaching among those who suffer? Thus, this work aims to understand, in light of the Bible, the reasons why people suffer; identify biblical attitudes that Christians should adopt in the face of suffering; and point out the possible consequences of the lack of biblical teaching on the subject for the church. The initial hypothesis considered that if there are people in the church who do not find comfort and are unable to console others, it is due to a lack of necessary knowledge about God and suffering as understood in the Bible. However, the conclusions indicate that gaining biblical knowledge about suffering is complex, as there will not always be definitive answers. Nevertheless, not seeking this knowledge can lead many to lose their faith. Beyond intellectual knowledge, there is also a need for individuals to decide how they will deal with pain, which involves emotional aspects and their level of relationship with God.
