| Abstract: | The aim determines the levels of setting life goals and meaning in life in youths between 18 and 24 years who were diagnosed with psychoactive substance use disorder. This study design is a cross‐sectional descriptive‐related. It was conducted with 302 youths in Akdeniz University Addiction Center. These individuals were selected considering the inclusion criteria, being between 18 and 24 years of age, volunteering to participate in the research, and not having speech, hearing, and cognitive impairments, and the exclusion criteria, having withdrawal syndrome symptoms. Data were collected with a personal description form, the meaning in life questionnaire, and the scale of setting life goals. Youths cannot find sufficient meaning in life and tend to search for meaning in life. The meaning in life, the existence of meaning in life, the setting life goals, and the search for meaning in life are significantly interrelated. Gender, employment, where they live, and the number of substances used have significantly influenced the meaning of life and setting life goals. Healthcare professionals can prevent or treat substance use by helping youths find meaning in life and setting life goals and be aware of substance use and risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
