Abstract: Young people who have experienced foster care face significant barriers to postsecondary educational attainment. The Youth in Care College Advocate Program (Y-CAP) is a peer mentoring initiative for students with foster care histories being implemented at eight public colleges and universities across Illinois. This paper traces the origins of Y-CAP, describes the program's key components, and presents some early outcome data and participant feedback. The paper also reviews lessons from the first two years of implementation and discusses plans for the program's future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
