Abstract: The article calls for a balance in communicating lower risk drinking guidelines and no safe level of alcohol consumption message. It shows the contrast between the no safe level statement and lower risk drinking guidelines and cites emerging evidence of the disregard of the no safe level statement and lower risk drinking guidelines among consumers. It stresses the need to clarify health communications, the relationship between messaging and the population drinking patters and message coherence.
