| Abstract (English): | Journalism is a profession associated with a wide range of occupational hazards that give rise to burnout and serious health consequences; accordingly, the Official Mexican Standard NOM-035- STPS-2018 mandates biannual measurement of occupational burnout. The objective of this study was to adapt and validate the Mexican Occupational Burnout Scale (EMEDO) in a sample of Latin American journalists. A total of 241 workers from across Latin America participated, 64% of whom were women between 22 and 59 years of age. An adapted version of the scale for journalists in Latin America was administered online. Informed consent and responses were obtained electronically. Construct validity was established through confirmatory factor analysis (χ²/df = 2.98, p < .01; CFI = .98; RMSEA = .08, 95% CI [.07–.08]), demonstrating adequate reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = .86). In conclusion, this version of the scale is reliable and valid for measuring occupational burnout in journalists across Latin America. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El periodismo es una profesión con diversos riesgos que generan desgaste y graves consecuencias, por lo tanto, la Norma Oficial Mexicana NOM-035-STPS-2018 exige que se mida bianualmente. El objetivo de este estudio fue adaptar y validar la Escala Mexicana de Desgaste Ocupacional (EMEDO) en una muestra de periodistas latinoamericanos. Participaron 241 trabajadores de Latinoamérica, de los cuales el 64 % eran mujeres entre 22 y 59 años. Se aplicó en línea una versión adaptada de la escala para periodistas en Latinoamérica. El consentimiento informado y las respuestas se obtuvieron de forma electrónica. La validez de constructo se obtuvo mediante un Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio (AFC) (χ² / gl=2,98, p<.01; CFI=.98; RMSEA=.08, IC 95 % [.07-.08]), lo que demuestra una confiabilidad adecuada (Alfa de Cronbach = .86).
