| Abstract: | Introduction: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) is common in neurological disease. Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) can be useful for evaluating NLUTD and are recommended by guidelines. The Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score–Short form (NBSS‐SF) is a 10‐item questionnaire that measures symptom burden and bladder‐related quality of life due to NLUTD. The aim of this study is to translate and validate the Norwegian version of the NBSS‐SF. Methods: The translation of the NBSS‐SF was done in accordance with international guidelines for cross‐cultural adaptation of questionnaires. Ten people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) pilot‐tested the pre‐final version and the final version was made. We assessed the psychometric properties of the Norwegian NBSS‐SF in pwMS treated with natalizumab (NTZ). They completed the Norwegian NBSS‐SF and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) at baseline and repeated the NBSS‐SF at second visit. Patient data was gathered from health records. Results: A total of 69 pwMS were recruited. Mean age was 46.7 years (SD 11.6), median disease duration of 10 years, and median Expanded Disability Status Scale score (EDSS) of 2.0 (range 0–8). Median NBSS‐SF‐score was 4 (range 1–19). There was good correlation (Spearman's rho = 0.51, p < 0.001) between NBSS‐SF and IPSS. NBSS‐SF‐score correlated with EDSS (Spearman's rho = 0.46). Patients treated for NLUTD had higher scores (p < 0.001). The Norwegian NBSS‐SF has good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88) and test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.88). Conclusion: The Norwegian NBSS‐SF proved valid and reliable for measuring symptoms of NLUTD in a cohort of pwMS treated with NTZ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
