Abstract: The article focuses on the use of motivational interviewing (MI) in responding to motivational issues and work to enhance offender readiness to change by probation staff. It is important to bring into control new out-of-control probationers. Adoption of a lens or a way of viewing the offender that is consistent with the belief in the ability of an offender to change by a probation staff should be done in utilizing MI. The difficulties in dealing with the use of MI are provided.
