| Abstract: | The article discusses the author's views on research and educational policy. A researcher is said to be someone who is curious and whose task is to ask questions. Policy-making on the other hand is about finding answers. Policy-makers construct elaborate criteria for seeking funding, so detailed that it would seem the policy-maker already knows the answers sought. The author states that not every question has a definite answer, and many answers have several possible questions. Policy decisions presuppose an Ideology and policy proposals correspond to some overriding need of the policy maker or Interest. A good researcher follows question where they lead, while a policy maker's responsibility is to find solutions. The author ends by doubting the wisdom of Plato and the parable of the cave. |
