Abstract: This article reports on a clinical trial studying the efficacy and safety of darunavir-ritonavir compared with lopinavir-ritonavir at 48 weeks in treatment-experienced HIV-infected patients in TITAN: a randomised controlled phase III trial. The protease inhibitor darunavir has been shown to be efficacious in highly treatment-experienced HIV patients. This study looks at the comparison of darunavir with lopinavir in treatment-experienced lopinavir-naive patients. The study found that in treatment-experienced patients, darunavir was non-inferior to lopinavir treatment in terms of the virological endpoint and can therefore be considered as a treatment for this population.
