Abstract: This article presents the 5th installment of a series on energy and health and examines the relationships between energy, food and health. Food provides human energy and nutrients but takes a big energy expenditure to produce. Worldwide agricultural ventures, and especially livestock, produces about a 5th of all greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change and poorer world health. Growing crops in one area can cause pollution that makes another area unable to raise enough to eat. The authors say it is necessary for the consumption of meat and livestock products to be reduced and offers a target meat consumption of 90 grams per day with no more than 50 grams coming from red meat.
