| Abstract: | The article discusses the effectiveness of reading aloud at improving reading comprehension and vocabulary in students. The authors discuss a study analyzing oral reading as a teaching tool through narrative structure, vocabulary and classroom discussions. Oral reading can teach students narrative and expository text structure. The authors selected books for the study that reflected science and social studies issues to broaden the educational value of the curriculum. Students drew visual recreations of the books read in class. The study analyzed student reading performance to reveal that the incorporation of discussions and teaching strategies into oral reading improved students' reading ability. |
