Abstract: The article offers clinical information on human African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness, a condition caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei and its transmitted by blood-feeding tsetse flies. Sleeping sickness is prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa where habitats are suitable for the tsetse flies. It appears in haemolymphatic and meningocephalitic stages, with the later stage being characterized with central nervous system invasion. Patients with sleeping sickness may experience fever, inflammation, sleep disorder and cardiac problems. Therapeutic options for such condition include pentamidine, suramin and melarsoprol.
