Abstract: This paper provides further discussion on the measurement of mood using self-report inventories. It comments on questions raised by Cruickshank (1984) about the structure and use of the stress-arousal checklist developed by Mackay and Cox (Mackay et al., 1978). Cruickshank's (1984) paper asks questions concerning the nature of the authors' stress-arousal checklist. The more interesting points are considered in this paper. Cruickshank's (1984) data do not significantly detract from the underlying model of mood. Any arguments as to the actual instrument of measurement used must be judged on their merits. It is to be hoped that this debate will stimulate more research in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
