Abstract: An experiment on P.I. for trainee `bus conductors showed that the apparent success of P.I. existed only in relation to the younger trainees. Another experiment with trainee teachers showed that the optimum learning conditions are different for old and young. In the light of this and previous work on age and learning, various explanations are considered for the failure of P.I. with the older `bus conductor trainees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
