Abstract: The article presents a study on screening for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It says that osteoporosis is the key predictor of fracture risk, and low bone mineral density (BMD) increases the possibility of fracture by 70% to 80%. It states that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) osteoporosis screening guideline sums up the lack of evidence on optimal rescreening intervals. It adds that the National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends the assessment of BMD every two years.
