Abstract: The article discusses hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) axis as an allostatic system and chronometric model. It also discusses circadian changes and importance of considering multiple influences on Cortisol. A purely genetic model of individual differences in HPA-axis functioning allows change only in the next generation with changes in the genome. It was concluded that understanding the dynamic quality of cortisol hormone is important.
