| Abstract: | The article focuses on the relationship of some Rorschach Variables (psychological variables) to Academic Behavior. The investigation of "nonintellectual" factors associated with academic achievement holds considerable interest for the clinician who is called upon to evaluate the reasons for the failure of the individual student to attain an expected scholastic performance An attempt to shed additional light on the nature of such factors was made through an investigation of those students at Yale College who consistently deviate either negatively or positively from their predicted academic achievement. The Group Rorschach Test was one of a number of evaluative instruments used in this investigation. The article deals with the contribution of this instrument to an understanding of college academic behavior Also, an effort is made to develop a hypothesis concerning underachievement and over-achievement. After reviewing the relevant literature, it was concluded that "At the present time, the evidence indicates that the best single measure for the selection of the college student is his average grade in high school." The advantage of this predictor results probably not only from the fact that it represents a greater work sample, but from the operation of personality variables essential to academic achievement. |
