| Abstract: | The aim of this study is to explore relationships between dimensions of literary fantasy and the personality and work style of the author. Psychologists interested in studying creativity or esthetics with techniques of objective measurement have sometimes investigated the individual case, or have concentrated on the creative personality on the experimental study of creative processes as manifested in projective products, or on dimensions of variation in works of art as related to patterns of esthetic judgment. Several hypotheses have organized the analysis of the data. The first is that among the less creative subjects in a field, a useful division may be made between those who hold to a conventional adjustment and those who are less conventional but conflicted. In the previous study of works of fantasy, motive-stylistic patterns were identified which were labeled heroic, tender and comic. Creative books by male authors were readily classifiable as showing one or another of these three patterns. The present study will try to show whether authors who differ in ego-assertiveness and in orientation outward or inward writes creative books in these three categories. |
