| Abstract: | The article discusses the results of the New York State Department of Health's study of HIV infection in childbearing women for the 28-month period from November 30, 1987 through March 31, 1990. The study is based on testing of blood specimens obtained from all infants born in the state for inherited metabolic disorders. According to the study, the seroprevalence rates in New York City increased from 0.16 percent for 14-year-olds to 1.41 percent for 24-years-olds. It also revealed a statewide HIV seroprevalence rate of 0.66 percent for childbearing women. |
