Abstract: The article discusses a study which examined the grey matter volume of the anterior cingulate (AC) in relation to seriously violent behaviour and childhood psychosocial deprivation in the context of a mental disorder. In this study, the subjects underwent whole-brain magnetic resonance imaging and were rated on the presence of serious violence such as physical abuse. It concluded that violent mentally disordered individuals with mental disorder suffer from a significant AC volume loss.
