Abstract: The article discusses the factorial validity of Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) for measuring the factors of group cohesion among musicians. Previous research suggests that cohesion consists of attraction to the group (ATG) and group integration (GI). ATG concerns an individual's personal involvement with a group, and GI involves an individual's overall perception of group solidarity. It also suggests that ATG and GI consist of social and task facets. Task cohesion exists when the group coheres around the task it was organized to perform while social cohesion exists when the group coheres around social functions. The authors inform that the GEQ consists of 18 items that measure the four factors of cohesion previously mentioned. In this study, 315 musicians from 84 musical groups participated. The bands were given the GEQ when together as a group, and they were assured that their responses would remain confidential. Although the factorial validity of the GEQ has not been substantiated, social-task distinctions were supported at the two-factor level.
