| Abstract: | This special issue commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, examining its historical, legal, and educational legacy for Black education in the United States. It highlights the Journal of Negro Education’s (JNE) role in preserving Black educational scholarship and features four sections addressing Brown’s significance, impacts on Black teachers and students, its legacy in higher education, and visionary futures for Black education. The issue critically engages with contemporary challenges, including conservative backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, and centers Black joy, resistance, and intellectual traditions as foundations for ongoing educational liberation. Through interdisciplinary contributions, the issue fosters reflection on Brown’s unfulfilled promises and imagines transformative possibilities for Black educational futures.
