Abstract: The article offers information on the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMP) an approach of the Common Core State Standards. It mentions that student-initiated problem helps in implementation of the SMP which produce vibrant and interactive mathematics communities. It discusses the Standards for mathematical practice in context to drawing triangles on a geoboard, mathematical manipulative to explore concepts of plane geometry. It also discusses solutions to problems of checker boards.
