| Abstract (English): | This article presents an overview of the Afro-descendant communities of the Caruao parish in Venezuela and their current relationship with the territories they still occupy, the same ones that were originally worked by their ancestors enslaved since the beginning of the 17th century. Based on a methodology that combines historical documentation and oral testimonies, it was possible to elaborate the present text, giving account of the abandonment of the local arable land by these communities, which would put in question the defense of the Afro-descendant territories as a fundamental right, since the same Afro-descendants would no longer be interested in giving continuity to the agricultural activities developed by their ancestors. Likewise, we speak here of forgetfulness and remembrance of the ancestral past as a possible hypothesis to understand why these people have been abandoning their traditional territories and activities.
