Abstract (English): Abortion and its regularization by the states have passed through many phases changing between banning, legality under conditions and toleration. Francoist Spain, the same as other countries under totalitarian regimes, defended natality as a State affair, abortion being obsessively persecuted and harshly punished. However, it was not enough for avoiding that many women resorted to a series of rudimentary abortion practices in the underground. In accordance with that, the objective of this article will be to highlight the practice of abortion, on the basis of judicial documentation, summaries and sentences prosecuted due to these practices from 1945 to 1966 in Lugo's judicial district. Besides, we intend to explore the reasons leading to that decision, the ways of achieving it and the consequences following those acts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): El aborto y su regularización por los estados han pasado por muchas etapas en las que se osciló entre su total ilegalización, la legalidad bajo supuestos y la permisividad. La España franquista, al igual que otros países bajo regímenes totalitarios, defendió la natalidad como un asunto de Estado, siendo obsesivamente perseguido y duramente castigado. Sin embargo, ello no fue suficiente para evitar que muchas mujeres recurriesen a toda una serie de rudimentarias prácticas abortivas inmersas en la clandestinidad. Conforme a lo anterior, el objetivo de este artículo será, a partir del análisis de documentación judicial, los sumarios y sentencias incoados por esta práctica entre 1945 y 1966 en el Partido Judicial de Lugo, arrojar luz sobre la práctica del aborto, sobre los móviles que conducían a una mujer a tomar tal determinación, los modos de lograrlo y las consecuencias de tales actos.
