Abstract (English): The article "HUMANITAS 104: THE CARDINAL'S CHURCH" focuses on the figure of Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez and his role in the Chilean Church before and after the military coup of 1973. The cardinal was a defender of human rights and solidarity with the poorest. He sought a Church committed to the social and human problems of his time, promoting reforms in the liturgy and the social doctrine of the Church. He also promoted the participation of the laity in pastoral tasks and the creation of educational, social, communicational, and economic organizations to strengthen the social influence of the Church. The author laments that the Catholic University is the only institution of the Church that has acquired social relevance in the last forty years, while others have languished or disappeared. It is mentioned that efforts to create another university were unsuccessful due to the risk of compromising the Church's social work with external political projects. The author highlights the importance of preserving the evangelical peculiarity of the Church in its projects. [Extracted from the article]
Abstract (Spanish): El artículo "HUMANITAS 104: LA IGLESIA DEL CARDENAL" se centra en la figura del cardenal Raúl Silva Henríquez y su papel en la Iglesia chilena antes y después del golpe militar de 1973. El cardenal fue un defensor de los derechos humanos y de la solidaridad con los más pobres. Buscó una Iglesia comprometida con los problemas sociales y humanos de su tiempo, promoviendo reformas en la liturgia y la doctrina social de la Iglesia. También impulsó la participación de los laicos en las tareas pastorales y la creación de organizaciones educativas, sociales, comunicacionales y económicas para fortalecer la influencia social de la Iglesia. El autor lamenta que la Universidad Católica sea la única institución de la Iglesia que ha adquirido relevancia social en los últimos cuarenta años, mientras que otras han languidecido o desaparecido. Se menciona que los esfuerzos por crear otra universidad fueron infructuosos debido al riesgo de comprometer la labor social de la Iglesia con proyectos políticos ajenos. El autor destaca la importancia de preservar la peculiaridad evangélica de la Iglesia en sus proyectos. [Extracted from the article]
