Geoeconomics has consisted of the geostrategic use that states have made of their economic and trade power to safeguard their interests, reducing the need for military intervention. Since the attack on the Twin Towers in NYC, another world order has taken shape, which does not cater to Western world organisations. China and the Global South are swinging power eastwards, a situation in which the US is unwilling to lose its influence and Europe does not know how to act in this new game. Global companies and cities continue to grow and concentrate such a large amount of GDP that many exceed the power of their states. The optimal size of cities will be determined by the growth that allows the benefits of urbanisation not to be outweighed by its costs. The pursuit of their ideal size must contribute to a new geo-economic order sponsored by states, which includes the interests of global cities and companies through cooperative agreements aimed at the sustainability of the Planet. La geoeconomía ha consistido en el uso geoestratégico que los estados han hecho de su poder económico y comercial para salvaguardar sus intereses, reduciendo la necesidad de intervenciones bélicas. A partir del ataque de las Torres Gemelas de NYC se ha configurado otro orden mundial, que no atiende a las organizaciones mundiales de corte occidental. China y el Sur Global están haciendo que el poder oscile hacia oriente, situación donde EEUU no está dispuesta a perder su influencia y Europa no sabe actuar en este nuevo juego. Empresas y ciudades globales continúan creciendo y concentrando tal cantidad de PIB que muchas superan el poder de sus estados. El tamaño óptimo de las ciudades vendrá determinado por aquel crecimiento que permita que los beneficios de la urbanización no sean superados por sus costes. La búsqueda de su tamaño ideal debe contribuir a un nuevo orden geoeconómico auspiciado por los estados, que incluya los intereses de las ciudades y empresas globales mediante acuerdos de cooperación que persigan la sostenibilidad del Planeta [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
