Abstract (English): This essay studies the writings of the noblewoman Joana de Vigo i Esquella (Ciutadella de Menorca, 1779-1855) as a window into experiences that have left few traces: those of women's ordinary, non-erudite, reading and writing. It analyzes her translations, notes, letters and other papers looking at their material dimension as well as their content, and asking what were their purpose and their meaning. It also explores the family archive in order to recover Joana's life trajectory and entourage, within the Spanish and European contexts of her time. Joana de Vigo wrote for herself and for others, putting much care and effort into her writing. Her story and her manuscripts are precious sources to understand how women of the local elites used the resources at their reach to cover gender and class expectations, but also managed to push them further, expanding their vital horizons through reading and --eventually-- writing.
