| Abstract (English): | Act 2 of 1959 created the Forest Reserve Zones as a figure for the management of the country´s forest areas, with the objective of developing the forest economy and protecting the soil, water, and wildlife. Although the Forest Reserve Zones do not constitute protected areas, a restrictive approach has been adopted that has prevented the allocation of land to peasants, leading to the social, economic, and political exclusion of this population. The article invites us to rethink the figure of Forest Reserve Zones, in which the development of the rights of the peasantry provides the basis for building a new type of relationship between the peasantry and nature. | Abstract (Spanish): | la Ley 2.ª de 1959 creó las Zonas de Reserva Forestal como una figura para el manejo de las áreas forestales del país, con el objetivo de desarrollar la economía forestal y la protección de suelos, las aguas y la vida silvestre. A pesar de que las Zonas de Reserva Forestal no constituyen áreas protegidas, sobre estas prima un enfoque restrictivo que ha impedido la adjudicación de baldíos para los campesinos, lo cual ha significado la exclusión social, económica y política de este grupo poblacional. El artículo invita a repensar la figura de las Zonas de Reserva Forestal en un contexto en el que el desarrollo de los derechos del campesinado brinda las bases para construir un nuevo tipo de relacionamiento entre el campesinado y la naturaleza.
