| Abstract (English): | This work discusses a skull-shaped pendant made from an Oliva snail shell unearthed at the archaeological site of Uxul in Campeche, Mexico. We analyze the piece from different points of view to approach its function and meaning. This paper provides a detailed description of the piece itself and its archaeological context. It also offers an interregional comparison of similar objects that can also be attributed to the pre-Hispanic Maya Area. The comparative approach pays special attention to examples with archaeological context. The analysis is complemented with examples of iconography that show elements similar to those of Oliva shell skulls. It is notable that the stylistic elements that characterize the Uxul piece --the combination of a skull with crossed bands-- are also found in graphemes 551hc and 211tv of Maya writing.
