Abstract (English): The article focuses on the drivers of innovation and competitiveness in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America and the Caribbean between 2006 and 2023. Through regression models and machine learning, key factors such as access to financing, a favorable regulatory environment, technological infrastructure, and political stability are identified as positively influencing the innovation and competitiveness of SMEs. On the other hand, inflation and corruption are presented as significant constraints. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and business leaders, highlighting the need for strategies that promote innovation in a complex regional context. [Extracted from the article]
Abstract (Spanish): En este estudio se analizan los principales impulsores de la innovación y la competitividad en las pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes) en América Latina y el Caribe entre 2006 y 2023. Mediante una regresión de datos de panel (efectos fijos y aleatorios) y modelos de aprendizaje automático, se identifican los factores que más favorecen la innovación de las pymes. La estabilidad política también juega un papel positivo, mientras que la inflación y la corrupción limitan considerablemente el desempeño. Se integra la teoría clásica de la innovación con nuevas perspectivas de economías asiáticas, destacándose el papel de la cultura política en la resiliencia de las pymes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
